House Republicans Vote for Extremism, Continue Supporting Anti-Immigrant Policies

WASHINGTON, DC— Tonight, House Republicans voted to give Trump $5.7 billion for a wasteful and dangerous border wall. Dorian Warren, president of Community Change Action, and Kica Matos, director of immigrant rights and racial justice at Community Change Action and spokeswoman for FIRM Action, issued the joint statement below:

“You’d think that after the midterm elections Republicans would take the will of the people seriously. However, tonight’s vote shows that the only interest House Republicans have in mind is that of an extremist, white nationalist president who is willing to shut down the government if he doesn’t get his racist border wall. Republicans voted for a shut down and they know it.

Trump’s tantrum could impact millions of hardworking people. We urge the Senate to stand firm and reject any money that furthers xenophobic policies that hurt immigrant communities. Not one dollar should go to DHS, including money for the wall or enforcement. Our families are not bargaining chips to be played in exchange for Trump’s extremist agenda.”
