More than 2 Million Undocumented Immigrants Need Permanent Solutions Now

WASHINGTON, DC—Today, the House Judiciary Committee held a markup of bills that would impact undocumented youth and TPS holders. Sulma Arias, immigration field director at Community Change Action and spokeswoman for FIRM Action, issued the statement below:

“More than two million immigrants have been living in legal limbo after Trump canceled DACA and systematically terminated TPS, uncertain if they will be able to continue living the lives they’ve built in the country they call home.

House Democrats are poised to pass legislation that would provide peace of mind and a roadmap to citizenship for young immigrants eligible for DACA and for TPS. We applaud this progress and the first step to pass these bills in the House Judiciary Committee today.

The Dream Act of 2019 and the American Promise Act of 2019 would provide the permanent legislative solutions undocumented immigrants desperately need. As the Judiciary Committee markup moves forward, we urge Members to reject any amendments that would further jeopardize our communities. Our families deserve to be together and free.”
